I’m Sonia Tyagi, and I’ve been playing the piano since I was five years old. I’ve been teaching my younger brother for the last 5 years. Through this experience, I’ve developed a passion and joy for teaching music to children. Now, I’m a highschool student who lives in Penn Valley, and would like to share my knowledge of music with younger children. In my free time, I enjoy other fine arts like drawing, painting, reading, and baking new recipes.
Through teaching others, I’ve understood that everyone learns in a unique and special way. I’ve noticed that some children are slower learners, while others pick things up very quickly. The lessons are tailored and personalized according to their strong and weak points. My individual piano classes offer a nurturing and engaging environment where young musicians can explore the beauty and joy of playing the piano.
I use the Piano Adventures series to teach my students. This is the same series that my teachers used to teach me. These method books establish an excellent foundation for technique, theory, and performing. Learning music using this method is very enjoyable, because the pieces are exciting and fun to play! The beginners start with learning the basics on the Casio Keyboard and then move to the Steinway Grand Piano.
I teach beginner to early intermediate students. The lessons are held at my house in Penn Valley, once or twice a week.
The first lesson is free and is an introduction to learning piano.
My fee is $30 for a 40 minute lesson.
